The cooperation of Fund "Sukhumi” with local self-government of Ozurgeti has been continued. In particular, support and promote advocacy of problems raised by advocacy group of the Club of Women Voters.

Representatives of Fund "Sukhumi” met with a representative Ozurgeti City Council Aleko Mameshvili.

When asked whether there were positive mechanisms for active involvement of women candidates in the election process and decision-making, the answer was as follows: "The problem is not who will be deputy majority - male or female candidate, the main is that this person was acceptable to society and a professional. As to the cooperation with the Fund "Sukhumi", we agree to support the solution to all problems, which, under the force of local government.

In April, mobilizers of the Women's Support Centers conducted 36 meetings in Kutaisi, Khoni, Tskhaltubo, Senaki, Poti, and Khurcha.

The objective of the meetings of mobilizers was to help residents of collective centers in solving their problems (issues of resettlement, prevention of domestic violence, integration of IDPs), as well as provide them timely with the information on the consultations of psychologist and lawyer.

 As a result of meetings the mobilizers solved many different problems of IDPs (installation of additional garbage cans in the new settlement of IDPs in Poti, problems associated with pensions and other benefits in Senaki, the problem of electricity in Khurcha), that increased their confidence in the Women's Support Centers.

In March there were held five meetings of psychologist with women IDPs aged 18 to 58 living in collective centres of Kutaisi.

The theme of the meetings was "Aggressive children”, and the purpose was to understand why there are so many aggressive children and how to fight against this.

"I often say my sun to stop playing aggressive computer games but after my remarks he further shrinks into his shell. What should I do?”

"I advise all the parents, who face with aggressiveness of their children, pay attention to their behavior with children or other family members. Try to set a good example for your children"- says the psychologist.

During the discussion participants said that everything starts from early childhood, relationship skills, which are formed in family. According to the psychologist, parents do not attach importance to manifestation of aggression among pre-school children, because it is not so evident. Also media, Internet, various aggressive computer games have a very big impact on children’s psyche and reduce the feeling of empathy, resulting in deficiency of moral and emotional qualities in adolescents".

Representatives of Fund "Sukhumi” met with IDPs living in two collective centres of Kutaisi ("Electromechanical Lyceum" and "Ankom”).

This was the final meeting where participants were provided with the information on issues of resettlement and expressed hope that their cooperation with Fund "Sukhumi” will be prolonged in the future too and will contribute to the solution of pressing issues.

Three meetings with the participation of 44 young women – residents of Imereti were held in March. The common theme "International legal documents concerning women’s rights” was discussed at the meetings.

16.03.12 – Khoni. Nine young women of the twelve were newcomer participants. They learnt about the meetings from their friends and wanted to become as active as they are. Nino Aslamazishvili: "We want to be more educated, socially active, and know more about our rights".

20.03.12 – Kutaisi. Twelve students gathered at the meeting. Seven of them were newcomer participants. One of them, Marietta Kobalia, said at the end of the meeting: "I could not imagine that such topics were discussed in NGOs. Such meetings are informative and useful”.

21.03.12 – Tskhaltubo. There were fourteen young women - participants. Nine of them found out about these meetings from their peers and from the journal "Women’s Voice” and therefore decided to be involved in this activity.

"I did not think that International law protects women’s rights ", - said Lika Bendeliani.

The issues and problems raised at the meetings were interesting for the participants. At the end of the meetings they were given information leaflets.

Meetings for the support of gender equality and democratic processes have been continued within the framework of the project "Enhance activity of the League of women voters in development of a dialogue with local authorities and preparation for parliamentary elections of 2012” in four regions of Western Georgia.

Representatives of Fund "Sukhumi” met with the representatives of the local self-government (Sakrebulo) of Tskhaltubo: Zaza Metreveli (Deputy Chairperson of Sakrebulo) and Kakha Bibileishvili (Chairperson of the Commission on Social Issues).

The objective of the meeting was to enhance cooperation between Fund "Sukhumi” and Sakrebulo.

The local government supported the initiative of an advocacy group of the Club of Women-Voters on providing financial assistance in the amount of 200 Lari to five deserved teachers living in Tskhaltubo.

A representative of Fund "Sukhumi” gave a Letter of Appreciation to the representative of Tskhaltubo Sakrebulo for the provided support and expressed hope that the cooperation between civil society and local government will be more useful in the future.

Fund "Sukhumi” joined the campaign "It affects you too!” initiated by non-governmental and media organizations.

Within the framework of the campaign at 13:00 pm. in eight towns of Georgia were held simultaneous informational meetings. There was provided the information about the campaign objectives, the threats which the legislative amendments (adopted at the end of December 2011) pose to society.

The organizers of the action informed society about the package of legislative amendments, prepared by experts and submitted to the Parliament.

At the informational action held by the Young Lawyers’ Association of Georgia (Kutaisi branch) in A. Tsereteli State University, representatives of Fund "Sukhumi” signed the Petition which does not represent interests of any political party and contains a demand for changing the election legislation.

On February 19-26, 2012 Alla Gamakharia (chairperson of Fund "Sukhumi”) was on visit in Liberia by the invitation of Kvinna till Kvinna. The purpose of the visit was to study the situation of women in Liberia, meet with women's organizations, founders and authorities involved in the development issues. The meetings with amazing women - the legends made ​​a lasting impression. The women who made tremendous efforts to conclude a peace treaty and achieve incredible success, now face new challenges and continue to fight for a world without violence. Meetings in Liberia allowed understand and get answers to many questions, including the most important one – Uniting women as a strong power!

Fund "Sukhumi” has implemented the project "Development of IDP communities to identify and solve social problems in the following objects of Imereti, Ajaria and Shida Kartli.

 

-  Samtredia, collective centre "Samtredia 2012” – supplying with gas

-  Kutaisi, collective centre "Physics and mathematic lyceum"  - supplying with gas

-  Kutaisi, collective centre "Military lyceum” – supplying with gas, reconstruction and landscaping of the yard

-  Kobuleti, Chakvi, collective centre – building of former school – supplying with gas

-  Gori District, village Sakasheti - supplying with gas

-  Gori District, village Khidistavi, collective centre, vocational school – water supply

 

General informational meetings with residents of collective centres and local self government were held in all the collective centres. Through voting members of communities identified the major social problems, 7-9 members of the committee were selected in each collective center to develop mini-projects on the issues.

In four of the six communities (except for the villages and Sakasheti and Khidistavi) were conducted trainings on management, compilation of mini-projects. Projects were developed in accordance with the selected issues, which determined the order of execution of the project and budget.

Projects are funded with a grant by the World Bank for Reconstruction and Development through the Community Development Center of Georgia.

The work was carried out in close cooperation with all members of both communities and local government: Mayor’s office of Kutaisi, Municipalities of Samtredia and Kobuleti.

We express special gratitude to the Municipality of Samtredia, which provided financial assistance to the collective center "Samtredia - 2002" in the amount of 550 GEL for the payment of the "general design and drawing axonometric scheme" for supplying the collective centre with gas. 

Currently, there is announced a tender to identify organizations that will implement the aforementioned projects in the collective centres.

At the meetings with young women organized within the framework of the 16 Days Campaign Against Gender Violence, were actively discussed international documents on women’s rights. This information appeared to be timely and necessary for the IDP girls.

Gvantsa Adamia (Senaki): "My generation which has refugee status must have full information about own rights”.

68 young women participated in four meetings.

Young Women Leaders’ School graduate Irina Putkaradze conducted information meeting within the framework of the 16 Days Campaign. In the meeting participated staff of Tshaltubo municipality services for education, culture, sports, and youth.

In December were held four Club meetings in Kutaisi, Khoni, Tskhaltubo and Senaki with participation of 75 women.

Participants of the meetings were provided with the information about the 16 Days Campaign against gender violence and given posters, calendars and booklets.

A meeting held in Kutaisi was special since there was screened a film about Abkhazia. Girls were listening to a popular TV journalist Nino Dzotsenidze with great interest.

"The project taught us to be independent and to value time. We have a desire to know and learn more", - said the girls.

A pupil of the ninth grade of the public school in Koki (Zugdidi District) Anna Khasia held an information meeting for 25 young IDP and local women and girls. Participants were given leaflets, booklets, calendars and posters highlighting the 16 Days Campaign.

They had discussions on how to eliminate violence in society and how to be protected from violence.

 Young women said that such meetings have positive impact on them.

Within the framework of the 16 Days Campaign participant of the Leaders’ School Nino Putkaradze held an information meeting in the kindergarten # 2 of Tskhaltubo.

In the meeting participated kindergarten teachers and children’s parents.

A meeting with psychologist was held within the framework of the 16 Days Campaign in Women’s Support Centre of Khoni.

19 women IDPs aged 22 to 58 participated in the meeting. The theme "Essence of family, its values and priorities” seemed close to the meeting participants and caused interesting discussion.

"Why I have to get married if I do not love my future husband. Spouses must understand each other intuitively, without words - then the family will be harmonious and children will be happy, "- said one of the participants of the meeting.

In the meeting conducted within the framework of the 16-days campaign in a professional college "Iberia” participated students.

They were provided with the information about international campaign against women. Students noted that the manifestation of violence against women is a gross violation of human rights. At the end of the meeting participants were given leaflets, booklets, brochures and posters of Fund "Sukhumi".
